19 October 2017 - Making a move that's been a looooong time coming, UE (Ultimate Ears) launches new UE BLAST and MEGABLAST speakers. Powered by Amazon Alexa, users could operate these speakers with their voice to control smart appliances, ask about the weather, and more. And just like the Amazon Echo and Sonos ONE, they can do this even when the speakers are playing music.
The BLAST and MEGABLAST match the size and build quality of the UE BOOM 2 and MEGABOOM speakers, with the exception of being a little more edgy. As with other UE speakers these are also waterproof and come with a built-in battery for portability. The BLAST has up to 12 hours and the MEGABLAST plays for up to 16 hours on WiFi. You could also stream your music over Bluetooth 4.1 whenever necessary.
The downside is that the USB charging port is now located under the base, but forking out more dough nets you the charging dock for a fuss-free grab and go kinda' deal.
Until it's finally released in Singapore, I have no inkling about its audio performance. But it's quite likely that both speakers will closely match the BOOM 2 and MEGABOOM in quality and detail.
The new UE BLAST (£200) and MEGABLAST (£270) are sold in six colours - Graphite (black), Blizzard (white), Blue Steel (blue), Merlot (red), Mojito (green) or Lemonade (yellow). Prices and availability in Singapore to be announced as soon as I have them.
