New Samsung Buds3 Pro Firmware AYG3 improved mic quality 🤔 (R630XXUOAYG3)
The Galaxy Buds3 Pro’s previous firmware AYB3 made some changes to its noise canceling. It became a bit weaker at canceling the sub-bass to lower-mid frequencies which is often the rumbling noises of machinery or public transport, but also a little better at dealing with upper mids and treble up to the 11khz region.

That is where everyday sounds like human chatter is. So noise canceling wasn’t nerfed overall, more like it was adjusted.
How do I know? I’ve actually made scans of their noise canceling before and after updating, so you can see the difference instead of just hearing.
We also found out that its mic quality took a hit in noisy conditions. It got a bit more aggressive at noise gating, that algorithm was just cutting into my voice too much. It will be interesting to see if this time it’s going to get better, and if any further changes will be made to its noise canceling, transparency, or even sound quality.
Active Noise Cancelling
In terms of noise canceling, frequency sweeps taken before and after the update show that unlike last time, there are no real differences in terms of noise canceling performance. I’m seeing some variation in the upper bass region but it isn’t nearly enough to say there is any audible difference. I’ve recorded some noise canceling samples.

Transparency Mode
Its transparency mode as well remains the same as before. Previously it was made a little louder above 7kHz, a very small difference that didn’t really improve its already great transparency, but this time with AYG3, it seems that they’re sticking with it. So no changes at all.
Microphone Quality
n terms of mic pickup, this time, it got a little better in noisy conditions. Noise gating is still aggressive but my voice isn’t being cut out as much as before. But it also got a little softer - not a bad trade off if you ask me.

But what I do want to see is voice pickup getting back to where it was 2 generations ago. Although voice pickup sounds more natural now, back then it was much louder.
Sound Quality
In terms of sound quality, there are no differences here. Frequency sweeps before and after the update show that the needle has barely moved. On AYG3, it’s gotten a little less boosted in the high frequencies than AYB3, just like how AYB3 got a little less boosted than J1, but that’s in the very high registers that most people are less sensitive to, and can’t really tell if there’s a difference anyway.
Conclusion
As of this firmware AYG3, the Buds3 Pro’s barely changed anything aside from mic pickup. Personally, I did wish there was more of a change to mic quality, and that could happen in future updates. But microphone aside, you shouldn’t expect to see any big changes in performance going from AYB3 to AYG3, unlike what we saw previously jumping from J1 to AYB3.
