Sony's BEST 1000X headphones is coming... 😐
There might be an even more high end version of the 1000X headphones coming soon on May 19th which is more premium than the WH-1000XM6 and anything that came before it. It’s called 1000X The ColleXion, codenamed WH-1000XX. And we’ve now got some fresh info about its pricing, some technical specs and even the materials used in its construction.
What We Know
Here’s what we know based on the leaks from French tech websites Dealabs, TheWalkmanBlog and MrWalkman. The ColleXion might be launched on 19th May at a much higher price than the WH-1000XM6. $649 US, 629 Euros, 549 Pounds and $849 Canadian. That is like, AirPods Max level is expensive. 50 percent more! But there’s a reason for that. This one seems to be built for even higher levels of audio with the latest Integrated V3 processor and DSEE Ultimate, which is Sony’s best upscaler - one step above DSEE Extreme.
Now it makes sense why Sony didn’t include DSEE Ultimate in the WH-1000XM6. They wanted to reserve the best for the best. And what’s more, the Collexion will be built from premium materials like metal and synthetic leather finishing, and metal hinges. Even the magnetic carrying case will be more premium with an integrated handle. Pretty excited to see what the design’s like, although, since it’s made with premium stuff, it’s going to be a little heavier than the WH-1000XM6, weighing 312 grams, about 60 grams more.
Specs
But apart from that, I’m not seeing anything else that’s different here from the WH-1000XM6, specs wise. It still has the same 12 microphones, 10-band equalizer, 360 Reality audio with head tracking, and I suppose they use the same Sony Sound Connect app too.
One thing that isn’t an upgrade is its battery. Battery life is up to 24 hours, which is actually shorter than the WH-1000XM6’s 30 hours, and its fast charging is not as fast. 5 minutes charge gives 1.5 hours versus the WH-1000XM6’s 2.5 hours. It’s going to be a bit heavier, and the hinge apparently does not fold.
Also, a reddit user who claimed that he has this product claims that the Collexion doesn’t support USB-C audio. If so, it’s another missed opportunity for a product meant to appeal to audiophiles, because some of them might want to connect it to their devices without using a dongle. It should still have the standard 3.5mm connector though, so I’m super excited to see how it sounds like over 3.5mm versus Bluetooth.
And what in the world does the ColleXion look like?
