Just as expected, we’ve got some leaked retail graphics of the new Sony ColleXion headphones just a few weeks before its rumored release. We also have some pictures of it ‘being spotted in the wild’. Very interesting that these look quite professionally shot, just at the right angles and with the right poses. Totally not staged at all!

Anyway, the retail images leaked by Androidheadlines clearly show that they definitely have a more premium build than the XM6. Some people say it looks like the Sonos Ace. Maybe just a little, maybe the area around the USB port, but I think the Sonos Ace looks quite different overall, more sleek. The ColleXion still resembles the WH-1000XM6 a lot more. Let’s start with the headband.

This time, it’s all metal, and it’s now exposed instead of being hidden, kind of resembling the Soundcore Space One headphones. But if I do get a review unit, it will be interesting to see how premium the metal feels, and how it flexes. I just love torturing these things, just stretching them out like a ballerina. As far as I can see, the hinge does not fold. It doesn’t have that extra seam we saw in the WH-1000XM6 which allows you to fold the earcups inwards, but that’s something we already know from sources.

What’s also interesting is the vinyl or leathery surface of the earcups. It resembles the old WH-1000X and WH-1000XM2 headphones which had a similar texture. Personally, I still prefer the smooth texture of the newer headphones, but I can see where Sony is going with this. After all, leather textures do inspire a feeling that the object’s more premium. I just think this leather finish looks better on the white than the black.
