Sony WF-1000XM6 Launch Confirmed!

From what I’m seeing, it’s very unlikely that we’ll be getting the Sony WF-1000XM6 this year, but it could be soon because we’ve got a couple of filings reported by TheWalkmanBlog, first in China in mid-September, and just recently this FCC filing with the short-term confidentiality date being the 31st March 2026.

This means the FCC will not make details of the product public before 31st March, so we can assume that the product will be launched on that date or sooner.

Most likely sooner based on past trends, because the current model, the WF-1000XM5, had its STC date listed as August 22, but it was launched on July 26 which is a few weeks before that.

So the WF-1000XM6 could be announced in the weeks or months before, could be at MWC, or even at CES which is held from 6-9th January, or after. If sit really is at CES, this will be the first time since 2017 that Sony announced the 1000X series at CES.

I actually remember reviewing the WF-1000X launched at CES 2017. It was… bad. I definitely didn’t like that product. It’s a far cry from how the WF-1000XM5 is today.

But back then, most TWS products were horrible, which actually made me want to pivot to cover TWS more because this category still had a lot of room to grow. So instead of just reviewing portable speakers and headphones I decided to devote more time to reviewing True Wireless Earbuds.

Reviewing the original Sony WF-1000X in 2017

Okay back to topic. Big shoutout to MrWalkman whom I got the following info from. The WF-1000XM6 might support DSEE Ultimate because recent versions of the Sony Sound Connect app carried mentions of DSEE Ultimate, along with the function of updating earbuds powered by MT2855 which is a new MediaTek SoC that’s expected to power the WF-1000XM6.

DSEE Ultimate isn’t exactly new, it’s been in devices like Sony Xperia phones and DAPs. But it will be an improvement over the DSEE Extreme used in current Sony earbuds because the Extreme version only upscales sample rate frequency, but DSEE Ultimate will upscale both the sample rate frequency and the bit depth of compressed audio.

What this means is you’ll not only hear more air and transient detail, you can feel the ‘shape’ of the sound better with improvements to dynamics. Needless to say I’m super excited. When the WF-1000XM6 finally launches, I’m going to listen to all my music again, and come back to you with my review. Subscribe to the main channel to get all the updates.
