This Is What We Know About the iPhone 17 Series

Singapore, 10 September 2025 — The iPhone 17 series has just been announced at the Apple Event 2025, and there are quite a few interesting things to talk about. From the new iPhone Air to the iPhone 17 Pro and a fresh design language, Apple has given us plenty to unpack.

iPhone Air

Let’s start with the newest member of the iPhone family, the iPhone Air. With a 6.5-inch display and an incredibly slim 5.6 mm body, the iPhone Air becomes the thinnest iPhone ever made. It runs on the A19 Pro chipset built on a 3nm process, making the iPhone 17 lineup the first to use this chip.

Apple did not share the exact battery capacity during the presentation, but they claim the iPhone Air can last up to 27 hours on a single charge. The device carries a single 48 MP Fusion Camera capable of up to 2x digital zoom. Another bold move is that the iPhone Air will only support eSIM, so if you still rely on physical SIM cards, this one may not be for you.

Next up is the iPhone 17. Apple has introduced several new technologies across the series, and one of the standout changes is the redesigned front camera. Instead of a rectangle, it now comes in a square shape, allowing for a wider field of view. The front camera also gets an upgrade to 18 MP.

Apple has also added a new feature that lets users record with both the front and rear cameras at the same time. On top of that, the iPhone 17 comes with Ceramic Shield 2, which is claimed to be three times stronger than the original Ceramic Shield. Another highlight is that the base iPhone 17 finally supports ProMotion with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Always-On Display. The display now measures 6.3 inches with a peak brightness of 3000 nits. Storage also starts at 256 GB, as Apple has decided to drop the 128 GB option,

iPhone 17 Pro

Then we have the iPhone 17 Pro, which brings some significant changes to the back. All three rear cameras — wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide — are now unified at 48 MP each. The front camera remains at 18 MP, similar to the base model. Apple says the new sensors are 56 percent larger compared to the previous generation. Under the hood, the Pro model also runs on the A19 Pro chipset, which Apple calls the most powerful smartphone chip to date.

For the first time on an iPhone, Apple has also introduced a vapor chamber cooling system, something Android phones have been using for years, to help keep temperatures under control. There is also an eSIM-only option for the Pro model, with the freed-up space being used for a larger battery that Apple claims lasts up to 39 hours on a single charge. Another nice addition is the anti-reflective display coating, which makes the screen much easier to view outdoors in direct sunlight.

All things considered, the iPhone 17 series does not exactly reinvent the wheel. Most of these upgrades are features Android phones have had for years. To long-time Apple fans, they may look like big leaps forward, but for those who have been keeping an eye on Android, nothing here feels particularly new.
