2025 Best Headphones! 👑 (Overall Winners)

These are, in my opinion, the overall top wireless headphones of the past year. Yes, sound quality is very important but in this video, the following nominees are also killer headphones in other ways. I’ve narrowed down to 5 nominees so it’s not an exhaustive list, but feel free to share with us in the comments which headphones you think should have also been nominated.

Sony WH-1000XM6

The Sony WH-1000XM6 is one of the best headphones right now because it’s one of the best performers in terms of noise canceling, transparency, mic pickup, and a whole suite of options to customize their sound. While it doesn’t have a parametric equalizer, its 10-band graphic EQ is powerful, and the changes can really impact their sound quality.

Which is great, because out of the box, they don’t sound that impressive, but I could create a custom EQ setting that makes them one of the best sounding headphones. As for comfort, at first they’re a little tight around the jaw, but after a while of continuous use, it feels loosened up, becoming quite snug and comfortable.

Bose QC Ultra Headphones Gen 2

The 2nd Gen QC Ultra has the best noise canceling. It’s so good that if someone asks me to recommend some noise cancelers, I immediately say ‘get the Bose’. But it’s not just about that.

They’ve got excellent mic pickup and transparency, and they’ve also got USB-C audio so you can charge them and listen at the same time although they don’t support anything more than 16-Bit 48khz audio. As for sound quality, it’s not the most engaging or impactful headphones, rather, they sound open, laid back and relaxing by default, not so mid-focused. This does make them awesome for Spatial audio, and on top of that, they’ve also got head tracking. Love them.

Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 SE

The main reason to buy the P100 SE is its sound. For me these are in the top 3 of best sounding headphones, maybe even the top 2. They’ve got Class A/B amplification, and you can actually hear the difference because these sound very clean, resolving, with deep layering so there’s a holographic effect to the soundstage.

They’re also one of the best for bass, having meaty, low frequency notes and texture. They don’t have the best mics or noise canceling, and they’re pretty basic in the features department, but they’re one of my favorites for sound quality. Another reason to get them is longevity.

They’ve got up to 60-hours of battery with noise canceling which means you don’t have to charge them as often, so the battery doesn’t wear out as fast, and even better, the battery is user-replaceable. You can actually contact Cambridge Audio support, and buy replacement batteries to replace them yourself which makes them even better value for money in the long term.

Sennheiser HDB 630

The main criticism about the Sennheiser HDB 630 is that its build quality feels a little cheap for the price, and If you’re talking about noise canceling, mic pickup and transparency, they’re only above average. But I love these headphones because they’re a great all-rounder for both casuals and audiophiles.

It already sounds awesome without tuning, very resolving in the midrange, bass is more on the clinical side with lots of texture, and it’s got more of a laid back character instead of sounding forward. What’s also special is that it’s one of only a few headphones that do have an actual Parametric EQ.

It’s limited in the sense that it’s only got 5 bands you can customize, and the DSP doesn't allow you to go too crazy with the adjustments. But if you know what you’re doing, it’s much easier to attack specific frequencies and get it to sound the way you want it. And of course, we can’t talk about the HDB 630 without mentioning the BTD 700 dongle, a pretty great dongle that streams high quality audio.

It’s got different modes like a low latency mode for gaming which is how I like to use it, and can pretty much connect your source to any wireless headphone, not just the HDB 630.

Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3

And finally we have the B&W Px7 S3. The Px7 S3s are one of the most enjoyable headphones I have in terms of sound. By default, it’s an extreme V-shaped signature which I know many audiophiles hate which is loud, thumpy bass, boosted upper mids and highs and recessed mids.

But what I really enjoy about the sound is the holography and layering which even approaches the level of the P100 SE, and its soundstaging being very enveloping and intimate. So there’s as much excitement in here as a stick of dynamite. Adding to that, it is a great all rounder in terms of its noise canceling performance, mic pickup, connectivity, plus I do like wearing it outside because it’s designed and built very premium, reasonably comfortable, and it’s got a flat profile which doesn’t stick out.

That’s why it’s one of my favorite headphones. Now, you must be wondering why I did not pick the Px8 S2. That’s because, while the Px8 S2 sounds better than the Px7 S3 on its default tuning, it’s not an upgrade in almost every other area while costing much, much more. Hard to justify, mostly.

So those are my favorite headphones of this year so far. There are others that I do like as well such as the JBL Tour One M3 and the Monitor III ANC among others, but if I had to narrow down my choices, it would be the ones in this video.
