2026 Best Sounding Headphones 🔥 (TOP 5)
Of all the most recent headphones I’ve tested including some new releases, in my opinion these are the best sounding ones by far that I feel are worth checking out. Read on!
JBL Tour One M3
First we have the JBL Tour One M3. I do like this one on its default settings, which sounds very laid back and non-fatigueing with great detail retrieval. Not a lot of bass so it needed some boosting to get back some of that kick and gravity. But it wasn’t enough to qualify it as one of the best sounding headphones. It’s a good thing that these are super customizable, which is what I used to make them sound way better.
First I used the PersoniFi feature, and then I tweaked it further with its fantastic parametric EQ. The result is clean, visceral bass, full and engaging mids, pinpoint clarity in the mids and highs as well as a wide and airy soundstage. So without EQ-ing they sound good, but after EQ, they’re one of the best sounding headphones.

Sony WH-1000XX
Next we have the Sony 1000X the ColleXion. Unlike the XM6, this one sounds great out of the box already, and it’s even got DSEE Ultimate which cleans up the separation even further. Soundstaging’s more on the enveloping and intimate side, which brings out the excitement and intensity of music.
At first my issue with it is that it sounded a bit too bright and crisp in the upper mids, so I created an EQ setting which made it sound as visceral and punchy as before, but without a hint of sibilance. This results in the ColleXion being very enjoyable to listen to, with great detail retrieval in the background, full and intimate mids, and bass that’s textured and tactile. Indeed, one of the best sounding headphones of this year.

Sennheiser HDB 630
Next we have the Sennheiser HDB 630. What I like most about it, even more so than the newer Momentum 5, is firstly, how resolving it is in the higher mid frequencies which brings out the vibrance of instruments like hi-hats and cymbals, and number 2, its high dynamic range which really brings out subtle details in the background, so you’re going to hear a lot more in your music that you’ve never heard before.
Its soundstaging is also pretty laid back which gives the impression of depth. But what makes it one of the best sounding headphones is the layering effect, which makes it easier to distinguish the background of your music from the foreground which adds a sense of realism and smoothness. This is why the HDB 630 is one of the best sounding headphones. There’s a lot more to like about it in my deep dive.

B&W Px8 S2
Even among the headphones in this roundup, the B&W Px8 S2 is one of the better sounding ones. It's not a bass cannon like the Px7 S3, yet the bass is still powerful, textured and tactile, the clarity it produces is visceral, and vocals are rich, impactful and full of presence. It’s also awesome for its dynamic range, being able to resolve subtle details easily against a dark backdrop, so you end up hearing more in your music than you’re used to hearing. And just like the HDB 630, I’m also getting very nice layering and gradient for added realism in the soundstage due to that 3-dimensional effect, although to a slightly lesser degree than the Sennheisers. Overall, these are one of the best sounding headphones.

Cambridge Audio P100 SE
And finally, we have the Cambridge Audio P100 SE. The sound quality from them stands out over the others in two big ways. First, they’re very resolving in terms of their transient details, so tracks have a sharper focus, bass has more visceral texture so you can feel the tremble of the bass guitar strings with every pluck, and percussions and strings have a bit more airiness.
It also has the best layering of this group, a holographic image that feels a bit more 3D than even the HDB 630. So if you want to go beyond just having clean separation, low distortion and great dynamic range, you should definitely try the P100 SE for that layered imaging. What makes them even more attractive is their price.
