Worth buying Tozo Golden X1 in 2026? 🤔
They’ve been out for a few years, but is the Tozo Golden X1 still worth buying even today?
The whole idea about the X1 is that it’s got audiophile grade sound with a dual driver setup. And from my testing, what they do best is sounding clean, exciting, textured and detailed.
Soundstaging feels close and intimate. Also, they’ve got fantastic track separation, and lush, deep and punchy bass. In fact they could even become bass cannons if you tweak them that way in the Tozo app. However, they do lean a bit more brilliantly in the treble regions than what I’m used to. That’s the one thing about its sound that I don’t like, so I did have to push those areas down a bit in the EQ. But here’s what they sound like in their default settings.
Microphone Quality
Its microphone quality for phone calls is not bad at all. Even in noisy, windy conditions, it did pretty well at filtering background noise from my voice. My voice through the mics did sound quite robotic, but pretty intelligible.

Active Noise Cancelling
For active noise canceling, to be honest they are average. You’re going to get very basic noise canceling, and against traffic noise, cafe noise and public transport, you won’t get that deep feeling of silence compared to the top noise cancelers. Frequency sweeps show that they do cancel noise, but they’re not very effective against low and midrange frequencies. But they do block out higher frequencies quite effectively which means you still will feel the silence.

Transparency Mode
For transparency, in day to day usage, ambient sounds both near and far do get amplified, which makes them usable for quick awareness. However it does feel occluded in the upper midrange and treble regions, so when I’m having face to face conversations, my voice feels muffled, so is the voice of the person I’m speaking to.
Features
If we were to look at its features, they do check most boxes given that these are priced in the premium range. They support Hi-Res wireless over LDAC, have app support with sound customization using a range of presets, a graphic EQ, and Eartune compensation, which measures the sensitivity of your ears and boosts the less sensitive regions.
It has wireless charging, great multipoint pairing, and these being earplug style, they fit very well in my ears. What it doesn’t have is spatial audio with head tracking, nor do they have in-ear detection. So if you take out one earbud, the touch controls don’t deactivate. So there is a chance that you could accidentally play something or raise the volume.
Conclusion
One issue that I had with it is inconsistent volume when I’m connected to multiple devices. On my iPhone, it’s very loud. In fact, even 40% volume is plenty loud for me, but on my Nothing 4a Pro, I had to max out the volume to get a similar loudness.
I cannot explain why this is the case, and it appears that others have experienced this when the X1s were launched a few years ago. That, to me, is a red flag. It appears that Tozo is not interested in fixing this issue.
That is why it isn’t easy to recommend them especially for Android device users.
As for sound, it is good enough for most people, but I’m not that blown away, partly because of the brightness I talked about, but also because it's a pretty flat presentation. As in it doesn’t have the depth and layering of something like the newer SoundPEATS H3.
I’m just saying the Tozo Golden X1’s sound didn't quite blow me away like that one did.
