GAME OVER! 😲 Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 Launched!
That’s it guys, Sennheiser’s won! Now people are gonna look at other TWS earbuds and say, ‘how come I cannot change the batteries?’ Because the Momentum True Wireless 5 just launched and for the first time ever, these are earbuds with user-replaceable batteries, both in the earbuds and the case! And no heat gun required, no elbow grease, and you don’t have to buy replacements from Aliexpress.
The battery swaps can be bought directly from Sennheiser. Don’t even have to send it to the service center. This pretty much makes the question of battery lifespan a moot point. As long as those batteries are available, even a few years later, you can delay upgrading to the latest model. This makes the MTW5 much more of a long term investment compared to other brands.
Other brands like Sony, Apple, Bose better watch out. If you don’t copy this approach, you’re going to lose market share. I can’t wait to review it when I get my hands on them.
As and I kinda predicted, the MTW5 will have the same 8-band graphic EQ as the Momentum 5 headphones, which makes it possible to tune its sound in a more granular way. Pretty excited to see how much I can tune its sound, probably post my custom EQ on Instagram like I did for other earbuds. THe MTW5 will also support Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio. It’s optimized for Dolby Atmos but from what they’re saying, you can also use it for any content.
Sennheiser says the MTW5 has up to 40 hours of battery with the wireless charging case, the earbuds themselves having up to 12 hours. This is definitely without noise canceling. With noise canceling it could be lower, possibly 30 hours or less.
It’s got 6 microphones and 2 bone conduction sensors. It uses four of the mics for noise canceling, backed by a revised adaptive hybrid ANC and automatic anti-wind mode, which probably means that you don’t have to turn it on in the app to cancel wind noise, it will automatically apply that filter for you on a windy day.
For calls, it uses all of the mics and sensors, powered by AI speech enhancement. We’ll have to see in my full review whether it’s actually an upgrade, and how it compares to the others.
And lastly, the MTW5 support Bluetooth 6 this time, but it still doesn’t have LDAC codec support. Its highest possible codec is aptX Lossless which not many devices have, but if you have the BTD 700 dongle you can use aptX Lossless on any device you connect it to.
But really, the biggest upgrade here for me is the user-changeable batteries. I think it’s a game changer, but what do you think? Is this worth swapping over from your current earbuds? Let us know in the comments.
