CONFIRMED! Sony WH-1000XM6 Full Specs + Launch Date 🤔
More leaks about the WH-1000XM6 have dropped, this time via a product listing on Amazon Spain, picked up by thewalkmanblog. Sadly we don’t have pictures, but we do have is info about its key specs and pricing, as well as the date it goes on sale, at least in the EU, which is 15th May, Thursday. The actual Amazon listing has since been taken down as of 4th May 2025, but may resurface soon.

That could be the preorder date, with actual availability in stores on Friday the 23rd, because that was the case with the previous model the XM5. (XM5 preorders started on 12th May, a Thursday, and it hit the stores on the 20th, a Friday.) So it’s possible we might see a repeat of that.
It will retail for 470 Euros, which is 12% more expensive than the XM5’s 419 Euros at launch.

What really jumped out at me, is that the WH-1000XM6 will have a new noise canceling chip called QN3, and will have a whopping 12 microphones in total, with 6 of them fully dedicated to noise canceling which Sony promises, cancels noise more accurately than the previous models, with what it calls Multi Noise Sensor Technology.
This could also affect the accuracy of transparency, which is why Sony’s saying it will have the best ever Ambient Sound mode for on-ear headphones, but all of those are claims until we test the real deal. What’s also new here is a 10-band graphic EQ compared to the 6 band EQ we’ve been living with, from the XM2 to the XM5. Of course, I am very excited to play with this 10 band EQ, and come up with a custom Aaron X setting for you to try.
There’s also a new Game EQ setting which wasn’t available before, and what Sony calls ‘360 Upmix for Cinema’ which converts stereo sound into surround sound, but it isn’t clear if we can do that with ALL content, or just content from certain apps and certain phones, like how 360 Reality Audio is with the XM5. And now, you can also use the XM6 while it’s charging, whereas with the previous models, that wasn’t possible. So from what I can see, the XM6 is shaping up to be a pretty significant upgrade over the XM5.

But there are areas which aren’t upgrades, like the battery life being the same 30 hours, the weight being the same 250g, Multipoint pairing to two devices, 30mm drivers which is the same size as the XM5, 360 Reality Audio with head tracking, Speak to Chat, and the same Auto NC optimizer which automatically fades the noise canceling into different levels of intensity depending on ambient noise. Whether that is something that can be turned off is not clear yet. Of course, the XM6 is also Hi-Res certified, but there isn’t any info on codecs, but it should at least support LDAC aside from AAC and SBC codecs. Maybe LC3 also if they want to align it with the WF-1000XM5 earbuds.
Does XM6 fold like the WH-1000XM4 or XM5?
The XM6 also has a folding design with a new case that has a magnetically closing lid. Whether it’s going to fold like the WH-1000XM5 or the XM4 remains to be seen because the Amazon listing doesn’t say, but based on previous leaks, my educated guess is that it will fold like the XM4.
